I.S.R. RACING IN THE TOP TEN AT THE CHALLENGING BRANDS HATCH'S ROUND OF THE THE BLANCPAIN GT SERIES SPRINT CUP 2017

07.05.2017 - I.S.R. racing has secured an important top ten finish in the second round of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup 2017, race run this weekend at Brands Hatch.

The first lap times of the weekend confirmed the feelings of the drivers, Filip Salaquarda (CZ) and Clemens Schmid (AUT) placed in fact their n.75 Audi R8 LMS to the fifth place in the first free practice session. Kevin Ceccon (ITA) and Frank Stippler (GER) showed a good feeling with the fast and tricky British track on the n.75 car, improving the performance of the first session by 1.5s in the second one.

Both driver pairings run a great Q2 in qualifying. It was a particularly intense session that saw seventeen cars in half a second. I.S.R. racing's drivers managed to secure a place in the tight Q3 anyway. Ceccon and Stippler posted the fifteenth quickest time in 1'23.844s, while Salaquarda and Schmid were 17th with a best time of 1'23.949s.

The Qualifying Race was run on Sunday morning and the two Audis R8 LMS run by I.S.R. racing put in a remarkable pace. Stippler run the first stint on the n.74 car, driving carefully in the midfield especially in the initial stages before handing the car over to Ceccon. The Italian driver completed the performance with some great driving recovering five places up to the tenth final place.

Salaquarda started the race on the n.75 Audi R8 LMS recovering one position at the start and then kept himself close to the rivals ahead of him. After the pit stop, Schmid put in a series of very quick laps crossing the finish line in twelfth place.

The Main Race run on Sunday afternoon has been more complex. Schmid got behind the wheel of the n.75 Audi R8 LMS for the start but went off early on due to a contact with the Mercedes-AMG n.85 and had to retire. Ceccon did not have a better luck on the n.74 sister car either. The Italian pushed hard but a drive through due to a contact with the n.66 Lamborghini Huracán made any recovery hard. The vibrations that emerged after this episode forced the team to retire also this car.

Igor Salaquarda (I.S.R. racing, Team Principal):
"This has not been a completely positive weekend. After free practice and qualifying our expectations on the races were high. In Qualifying Race we proved that our potential is really high. Overtaking is difficult on a narrow and twisty circuit like Brands Hatch, but thanks to the careful and effective driving put in by Frank, Kevin, Filip and Clemens and to a wise strategy, we ended within the top ten, despite starting from the seventh and eighth row of the grid. The Main Race was quite unlucky instead. We could have confirmed what shown on track in the morning, but some episodes eventually spoiled our performance. I hope we will have a clean weekend in Zolder in order to show our full potential".

I.S.R. racing will get back on track for the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup next 2 - 4 June in Zolder.
